The understanding I have is that each time it's launched, PS CC attempts to authenticate itself via a network connection. No connection -> no authentication -> no app.

From Adobe:
"Because your Creative Suite applications are installed directly on your computer, you will not need an ongoing Internet connection to use them on a daily basis. However, you will need to be online when you install and license your software, and at least once every 30 days thereafter. The software will alert you when you need to connect to the Internet for a license status check "

Keywords above are making sure the CS apps are installed correctly. The linked forum page goes on to troubleshoot "No internet Connection" message.

Really odd, because about this time every year, they release a new yearly update. It should have been CC2016. Adobe must be behind...!

I know they normally release a major update in September. Not sure about last year but half update (0.5) sounds about right at this time.

Even though Adobe is calling these 2015.5, the actual applications have been bumped a full version number. It's unlikely we'll have another update for the 2015.5 apps in the fall.

So it DOES need an internet connection, just one a month or so and not every day. But still, if you've installed it and authorized it, why does it need to keep checking?

Your first post was about your office having "network issues". I was reiterating that it doesn't check everyday so you should be fine. It keeps checking because it's a subscription based service.

You're actually right. I did some checking and they changed releases to June when CC was released. Strange they didn't just bump the year number as it's not that important and it would leave less confusion to consumers.

You're not alone. I'm looking out for Affinity as well.
Hopefully in years to come, Affinity will be a solid contender against Adobe suite.

Affinity is still in its infancy but I still bought it to support the company. I hope this app becomes a viable Photoshop competitor in the future.
