I think you're mistaken on artwork. Web sites, marketing, app store, etc. all need artwork. Shipping, middleman, vendor cuts amounted to ~50% of the retail price. But, consider Apple updates their OS every year requiring more updates, there are much more features in software today, making it much more complex means you have to pay more people to product a product than you did back in the 90s. Add into that the cost of living increased since then too means you have to pay people more to produce a product. This offsets the savings from physical boxes and much more.

All i know is my favorite drawing & photo apps for my ipad pro were pay once and done. Updates have been free. Love it.

There are so many other things we need to pay monthly for. It gets to the point where the avg person has to draw the line. I mean to have 100 diff things you pay monthly for can get a little out of control.

Wish all of the creative cloud apps were on there and I could mix and match. Some months I need illustrator, some I don’t. Much easier to deal with the subscriptions on MAS than on Adobe’s site.

Just this week I cancelled my Adobe Photo CC subscription (Lightroom + Photoshop, 20 GB cloud, € 9,99 per month) just because I don't like subscription software. Instead, I had bought Serif Photo and Exposure X4 about two months ago. Haven't used the Adobe suite since. I might buy the entire Serif suite in the end.

So to clarify, if I purchase the in-app 9.99 subscription, will I get access to Lightroom for Mac and iPad, or just on Mac? If it's just Mac then that doesn't seem like a very good value, since the 9.99 subscription from Adobe gives access to Mac, iPad and Web versions.

Yes. Lightroom CC on all your devices including Apple TV for viewing and all synced perfectly.

I love it.

Anyone know if it's possible to switch from the Adobe subscription over to doing it via Apple and not lose all your data? I'm assuming you have to cancel the Adobe one and create Apple and then re-import or open your library again.

I don’t disagree with you there. Subscription fatigue is a real thing. But at some point the vendors of your iPad apps are going to stop finding new customers to pay for your updates. And the app store doesn’t allow for upgrade discounts. You’re going to have to buy them again if you want updates, or they’re going to go out if business, and you won’t get any.

Funny thing is though, I don’t know a single procreate user who wouldn’t be happy to rebuy it, it was already insanely cheap.

Having to buy an app every few years for an insignificant price is definitely preferable to monthly billing.

As for things like Affinity Suite, they have pretty much open pastures for potential new customers considering how much Adobe are annoying people.
