What is a good software package for editing video and pics (does not need to be ultra Pro stuff) just a good package for a better than average amateur photographer? The Adobe video elements 10 package gets dreadful reviews...

You could take a look at Pixelmator and Final Cut Pro X, both offer a 30-day trial.

Preview works well for basic editing. Many choose Pixelmator:

    pixelmator or photoshop?

I like Seashore, it has as much functionality as Pixelmator and it's FREE! :)

+1 for Pixelmator. I'll actually use it instead of Photoshop for a lot of things since its MUCH faster.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A406 Safari/7534.48.3)

Fcpx should do all an amature editor needs and isn't as pricy as adobe premiere pro although that is what I use and it's wonderful
