If you read the LR5 announcement, then you'll find that LR5 uses a unique scaled-down version of the original RAWs (which are themselves still RAWs) to allow for offline editing on devices with little memory (in the context of the full LR5: laptops with SSD permanent storage). Allegedly, those mini-RAWs use only 1/10th of the space of the original RAW

But the RAWs in your camera will still be the same 30 MB, right? In order to scale them down we'll still need an old good comp with LR? Then why would I use this cloud service, if I can do it all much better and easier on my MacBook? And if I'll have any kind of connection while own the road, I'll better send the edited pics right from my MacBook.

Unless I'm missing something big.

Not that I'm against a new app / service, I'm just not getting its purpose.

would love for Apple to have Aperture do this "in the field" or "on the couch" rating system/maybe editing too via iPad and sync to main Mac running Aperture.

PLUS, with non-destructive changes the iPad is fine for starting on things.

There used to be a great app called Pixelsync for rating, organising and flagging called Pixelsync but it got torpedoed when Aperture/iPhoto had their file system changed:

Apple should've done what Adobe are doing ages ago and made a companion app for Aperture for use with their own device the iPad! It's a pity and flabbergasting that they still haven't; fingers crossed this will be part of Aperture 4.

Don't understand why people have to hate everything that's not Apple.

Adobe develops some great software like Lightroom and Photoshop. Flash sucks but all companies have some lemons in their portfolio (even Apple).

I seriously doubt Apple would have the market share today if it wasn't for software like photoshop being available. Apple appears to have abandoned the pro user so be thankful at Adobe hasn't.

Of course, in my scenario you need a full computer first to get the downscaled RAW into the cloud. So you can't shoot wedding photos and on the way back start editing the shots on the iPad. But you could edit your previous shots once you had transferred them to your computer at home / in the office, which could well be a desktop machine for need of raw poer (iMac, Mac Pro).

Yes, Apple, PLEASE get with the needs of pros. We who still use Aperture despite the *entire* Pro world touting Lightroom tools for processing that integrate with opening in PS without needing to save a TIFF or high-quality JPEG first wonder why Apple is not fulfilling Job's 4th Revolution of Photography. I said when LR4 came out:

and Adobe had no problem following the vision, while Apple is sitting still on AP3.

And yes, I would have no problem using a cloud library of small RAWs and adjustment dB on my iPad Retena for global adjustments. Would be amazing, really.

What??

Adobe is a great company! Every AppleFan should buy everything that they make out of sheer gratitude!

Even after The Steve dissed them so horribly, they didn't abandon Apple. they are still plugging away, doing their level best to make AppleFans happy.

THAT is dedication. Thanks Adobe! If only more companies were like Adobe, maybe the Mac would sell in significant numbers!

Of course Adobe didn't 'abandon' Apple. Many artists and designers use Macs. Adobe would be shooting themselves in the foot by not developing for Apple products. iOS is the mobile OS Adobe is primarily developing for. It's not as if Apple had to apply for Adobe product approval......in fact, it's quite the opposite. Please note that all of Adobe's mobile apps have an iOS version and six of them are iOS only.

I think I remember reading about this but I had just upgraded my stuff so was waiting on a possible fix to it.

this should have been a year 1 thing they did with the iPad though.

Is this really going to allow RAW processing? That seems.... highly unlikely.

Yes, but not in the IOS device. It works on reduced previews for each non-destructive change and then you sync it up to your copy in your computer for the changes to show in a synced LR catalog, which applies them to the original RAWs there.

I hope this isn't what deforstallization looks like...
