Holy crap. I can actually OWN Adobe software.

It's Photoshop Elements - you probably wont want to own it if its anything like the rest of the Elements products. They dumb them down to the point where they are near useless.

GIMP. Open source. Free. FTW.

Also a PITA to use, even if you're experienced with it. It's not got anywhere near the amount of features as Photoshop.

And Apple still refuses to bring Aperture up to date.....

Kinda a non-sequitur in a Elements thread. I mean Lightroom 5 came out a few months ago.

We'll see what Apple does in a few weeks. If Apple doesn't update Aperture to coincide with the new Mac Pro I give up. I love Aperture but Lightroom has gotten so far ahead of it now it's hard to ignore anymore.

Maybe I'm just overly sensitive, but that UI looks like complete crap. Also, who buys Adobe software on Mac anymore? I own Acorn, Pixelmator and Sketch they're all cheaper and overall much better solutions than Adobe crap.

They're also pretty poor compared to photoshop feature wise. Sure Photoshops a bloated, expensive, ugly app...but no app matches it for professional photo editing and web design.

It's not got?

Try it doesn't have... Or it's got nowhere...

I gave up on adobe software. Tired of their licensing/pricing scheme

You know, considering this is aimed for consumers who just want to put together clips of video they shot of their family with fancy editing.

Just to correct this a bit....

consumers who just want to put together clips of video they shot of their family with fancy effects

if they wanted fancy editing, they'd use premiere or fcp... but consumers don't have a clue how to edit. But they do love the effects, and that is what they think editing is.

The dog with the deep black eyes looks rather freaky...

Sometimes he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. And, you know, he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be living... until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin'

My point was Adobe keep releasing new updates across the board, Apple has done very little. I've gone down the Lightroom route because of new features, but I'd rather have Aperture.

The interface is SO hideous.

This I agree. An updated Aperture is long overdue.

Why does this article not address what has been a big problem for those of us with newer macs and older adobe software, i.e. the lack of a retina version? And I can't seem to find on adobe whether this is retina or not either.

We should all be grateful to Adobe for making Mac software. I can't imagine that they make much money off of it, given the tiny number of Macs out there.

Since the main target buyers often use macs, I'm not so sure about that. Without numbers we don't really know anything, although assuming that Adobe is the Mother Teresa of software is typically... dumb.

Crippleware. I've looked at using Photoshop Elements over the years but never bothered because it is so crippled. They've disabled too much of the functionality of Photoshop. So instead I just don't bother upgrading. The older versions keep working and doing the job without wasting money on upgrades. One more reason not to go to their subscription model where they charge you for continuing to use the software. I like to just buy things. Leasing is a bad economic model.

Typical I hate everyone that's not Apple. Screw you.

<insult> Of course, you had to be a newbie… </insult>

How do you like 'em ad hominem attacks, now?

You know, some people, namely designers and other creative professionals, actually have more mature *reasons* to hate Adobe than just brainless spite or sheer fanboyism…

Many of the people who had a love/hate relationship with Adobe (and, by the way, mostly all of their users fit in that camp) prior to the CC debacle now have downgraded it to a full-on hate/hate one. Apple (and Apple fandom) is not even a (dominant) factor on this phenomenon; I'm sure that even if I was using a Wintel PC (and liked it), I'd still hate Adobe with all my guts anyway, for they have betrayed their users' trust (much like what happens, all too often, in intimate personal relationships… <insult> Have you had any of those yet? </insult>).

I won't lie to you; the fact that Microsoft is testing the waters with their optional Office360 subscription is unsettling, and I still prefer Apple's strategy, namely their pay-to-own App Store model. So, in a sense, the fact that Apple users prefer to own stuff, and good one at that (hey, Adobe's software may often be crashy and/or sluggish, but the suites are rather well integrated and its modules very powerful), may explain why they are more prone to snub Adobe's new business model…

However, correlation doesn't imply causation! There are many Apple users who are (unfortunately, I may add, as that may put the others – and themselves!! – in financial and technical jeopardy) perfectly happy with their CC subscriptions, while there are also Windows users who hate them to the bone and will stick to their CS copies (and will probably get a better and longer run at it, as Microsoft is famed for its backwards-compatibility efforts, much moreso than Apple).

Oh, and yes, I'm aware Apple is actually relaxing a bit when it comes to music, with iTunes Match and iTunes Radio (which many Apple users will pass – see above), but one thing is offering you the option to rent your music – the taste for which may change throughout the course of your life –, while forcing you at gun-point to rent the tools with which you earn your living, for the rest of your life, is a whole different matter and just reeks of greedy extorsion (I believe that's called a redundancy but, in Adobe's case, it's actually quite fitting, as they were already greedy to begin with).

<insult> Now, go back to your toys. </insult>

Oh, and by the way: Screw Adobe.
