Rumors indicate that the new MBPs will have both HDMI and USB-C. I intend to buy one and to buy a 27" display to go along with it. The two Dell 4K 60 Hz displays I am looking at differ as to which connections they offer. One has USB-C and HDMI, but costs the double of the one which only has HDMI.

And so my question is, which advantages would there be for me in connecting the MBP through USB-C as opposed to HDMI? I understand that USB-C is better for multiple displays (not an issue for me) and for charging through the same cable. Are there other significant differences, especially regarding image quality? Thanks.

The image quality shouldn't really matter as long as you have an HDMI port new enough to handle the same video specs as what the USB-C connection allows. The advantage of USB-C is the ability to power the Mac from a single cable for both power and video and also possibly to open up a built-in USB hub that might be on the monitor so you can plug extra accessories in to the monitor and connect all of them with one cable (keyboards, network, audio, camera, etc).
