advertisements in Safari and other apps?

Is there a way to block advertisements in Safari and other apps i have downloaded like Slick Deals? i'm running 5.0.1 on an iphone 4, i know using an Android phone for years i had some add blocker installed and it worked pretty well.

There's an adblocker available in Cydia if you jailbreak.

This works pretty well, even on a desktop/laptop PC browser such as Firefox. Probably frustrates those who depend on the ads to support their sites, but it sure makes life more pleasant for the user.
