I actually think that is a bad idea until there are enough machines in the pipeline to make getting one a dead-simple walk in, pick it up, carry it to the register type operation. Among Mac addicts like most of us in here, pent-up desire is a Good Thing. With Joe Consumer, it means getting irked and buying the PC across the aisle. When all 3 models are on the shelf, THEN Apple needs to start some good ads.

good point Indy. i guess maybe we havent seen ads in awhile because apple doesnt want to advertise now. all they have to offer are ipods (already advertised and sellingw ell) and an imac no one can get their hands on. i suppose once we get new PMs, iMacs in high production, or new Pbooks we arent going to see much.

although why not push the iBook? It would be nice just to keep some sort of media presence.

Apple Ad

Today I saw Apple's new iMac ad on CTV Sportsnet. It's only the second time I've ever seen an Apple ad on TV in my life, the first one being Apple's iDVD ad on some other channel.

i havent seen an apple ad since november 2001 here in CA USA.

im surprised there arent any imac2 ads.

There are a few posters around London but alot of TV adverts for it have been shown recently, at times of high viewing such as during Soccer and F1 covererage.

there are never any print ads in public view around here...we only get to see whatever's in the current magazines or on tv (which isn't often)...

I'd really like to see a billboard sprout itself....but I suppose the southeast isn't considered a big enough market to buy into?

What I've noticed with Apple is that it leaves you on a cliff hanger.
Like the new iMac window ad, 7 simple words and an Apple logo, why wouldn't you want to find out more about a dancing computer.

Oh yeah, there is a new big big ad in Melbourne near St Kilda shopping place, cool ad, simple ad, iMac ad.14 dark blue

Apple walks a fine line between piqueing interest and confusing people. Most of us remember commercials that left you saying "What were they thinking?"
We've seen ads that never clearly identify the product being sold, or even what it really does. Fortunately this new commercial is saved by the fact that the new iMac is so original/unique that people will want to research it more.

Hopefully Apple keeps up the trend and keeps making provocative commercials that get people curious about the Mac, and not ones that make people scratch their heads going "Hunh?"

product placements pulled?

Here's something: is Apple pulling their product placement spots? I used to watch the weekly sit-coms, and see Macs in every one. Now I still see the Macs, but the Apple logos seem to be covered. On ‘The Drew Carey Show’, there’s long been a Cube obviously placed on Drew’s desk, prominently and proudly displaying the Apple logo. But for the past few months, the Apple logo has been disrespectfully replaced by a simple circle. On ‘Just Shoot Me’, there are Macs all over the place. Last week, someone was typing on a PowerBook G4, and there were 3 post-it-notes, all strategically positioned right over the Apple logo. So what gives? Perhaps they’re pulling out of the sit-com market, so they have more cash for advertising elsewhere??? Not that I don’t want to see Macs on my favorite shows, but I don’t know how well sit-com placements sell them.

I think it's more a matter of Apple not paying people fro product palcement. I don't know that Apple deals with every sitcom and TV show that want's to use their products.
I think the shows are just doing it because they want to use sexy looking products, but since they're not getting paid by Apple, they're not going to give them free advertising.
