Advice - Apps to clean up your Mac for maintenance?

Any suggestions on Apps to run to help clean up your Mac and keep it running smoothly?

I have a G4 Quicksilver with a bunch of upgrades and would like to start a maintenance program to keep it running smooth but have never done anything like this before (friend suggested it the other day but we didn't have a chance to get into the details).

Any suggestions or advice is appreciated.
