I still don't get why people use sleeves for their laptops. Just get a backpack with a dedicated padded section for your computer (that preferably doesn't sit the laptop flush at the bottom with the rest of the bad). Or if need be, some kind of rigid case.
I've seen people drop their laptops while removing them from the sleeve, I've seen laptops with marred edges from zippers or abrasion from sand in shell cases. And lastly, people put their laptops on top of the soft fabric case hampering its cooling.

OP, sorry for your loss. If you're considering selling the replacement part, keep in mind that some of the prices you see on ebay aren't actually selling. Right now, I'm seeing several display assemblies in the 100$ range. I'd personally take the 100$ from Apple and save the hassle of putting it on ebay, shipping it and everything. It might also take a while to sell at the price you want as it's a bit of an oddity.
