Yes, that would be a decent one. It has USB3, a must-have.

You may find the speed of the 1tb internal HDD somewhat (cough…) slow.

In that case, it's very fast, cheap and easy to plug in an external SSD via USB3 and use that as your "external booter".

But don't worry about that until you have the iMac up-and-running.
 
What are your guys thoughts on a 2012 iMac i5 processor, 1 tb hd, and 8 gb ram? Would this be a good one to get?
I would save up and get a modern Mac your not going to get performance or rather even updates for long as thats the next product to go into the obsolete category and would mean no new OS updates.
