Advice on best upgrade from 3.0.1 jailbroken 3gs

Hi macrumors people!

After some of your lovely wisdom and advice if i may 🙂

So i have a 3gs on 3.0.1 which desperately needs upgrading as its getting slow and glitchey. Whats the best upgrade method. Also do I go to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3?

Please give me exactly the way to do it. like do i just download the firmware and plug into the latest pwnage tool or update through itunes then do pwnage?

any help and advice is much appreciated 🙂
