Long-term solution.... get into the trades. Plumbers, electricians, appliance repair... always in demand. You want proof? Call a few randomly and see how long it will take to get an appointment, and then how much they charge.
Short-term.... lots of money to be made in Alberta/Saskatchewan oil patch. Mind you you'll need to sneak across the border.... but even the McDonald's are paying stupid wages in Fort Mac just to keep people. Alberta minimum wage is over $9/hr - but entry level jobs in Fort Mac are paying $15 to $17/hr. for restaurant and hotel jobs.
Work really hard for 5 years, don't lose too much at poker, and walk away with enough to go back to school.
