Hey everyone. I was one of the lucky people to get an iPhone on the 29th and I absolutely love the phone and pretty much all things Mac. My phone seems to be a bit quirky, however, and I really want to go to the Apple Store with my box and phone in hand, and swap out for a brand new phone. I had heard that Apple will not do this, but rather make you see a Genius, try and diagnose a problem, and then swap out for a refurb? Is this true?

If so, any advice from people who have gone through this already? My symptoms include:

    - Random restarting of phone
    - Random time being incorrect
    - Random screen flickering
    - iPhone not syncing back to iCal

    Thank you,

I think no matter what you will need to sit with a Mac Genius to go over the issues. There will be no way around that. Being you are within the 14 day return period I don't see why they wouldn't just exchange it for a new one. If they give you a hard time I would ask to speak with a manger. Just be polite but firm.

HI angrygolfer, I think you are correct... I will need to sit with a Mac Genius first but I know how this always goes... You tell them your problem, they try and replicate it, they can't so they bring it in the back to try and replicate it (God knows what they do it, lol), bring it outside and say since I'm under warranty they'll swap it for a refurb.

I really hope I don't run into any hasstle on swaping for a new phone given I'm within 14 days, have all the boxes, etc, and have spent a fortune on Apple products over my lifetime.

Don't really want to pay that 10% re-stocking fee either (especially since they wouldn't give me a student discount)!

make an appointment with a mac genius

more likely than not, he or she will not know as much about the iphone operation as you do.

so they will swap your SIM card and put it into a new one. (they keep some on stock just for this reason)

they have to call at&t to let them know about the swap so that might take a while.

but bring your receipt, original box AND all of the accessories. it will make it easier for them to give you a replacement.

I actually bought two iPhones on the 29th and one of them is still unopened... Can I just "return" my bad iPhone, and port my number to the unopened iPhone at home? Do I need to swap the SIM in front of them? Seems like it saves me from going back to the Apple STore to return my extra iPhone and it keeps one more unopened box on hand at the Apple Store... right?

Is there any issue with trying to port your iPhone number to another iPhone via iTunes activation?

the mac genius removed the SIM card removed from the first phone I bought and placed in a new one.

i brought the new one home and plugged it into itunes. It recognized my SIM card and asked me if i wanted to restore my settings. it took a couple of minutes.

i would not bring in the two phones you have. i would bring in the one you want replaced. if you bring them an iphone with a different SIM card than the one that was inside when you bought it, they will have issues with your AT&T account.
