I am finally done editing and tagging all of my home movies. I have about 1TB of Video and Photo's. I was using Amazon Photo for a while (before I decided to clean things up) but I found it difficult to navigate and it would not play any video over 20 minutes. It also couldn't handle all file type. I did use this to give my children access to their childhood memories.

I am looking for something to upload my collection to that is easy to navigate from both a Mac and an iOS device. I thought of upgrading to 2TB iCloud and adding everything to my photo library and then "Sharing" the video's. I am not sure this is the right tool either though. All the photo's are already there, so it's just the video that I would be importing and then sharing?

Any advice on how to go about this?

Most sites are not set up to handle a lot of video. I had to rent a personal server (godaddy) and then ended up running my own at the house because I wanted to share some HD content (a business internet account). I have complete flexibility, but then I needed to learn how to set up a web host (MacOS server) and web pages. Not for the easily discouraged :) Its not hard, just some work and learning, certainly not for everyone.

I am not sure who today best accommodates video galleries at a reasonable price... especially if you have any HD stuff. A year ago there was no one.

Photos are a different story, plenty of gallery support for those.

I've been using Vimeo and have been happy, but I don't need as much storage as you. I'm on the "Plus" plan which lets you upload 5gb/week up to a total of 250gb. The next level plan gives you a 20gb/week limit with 1tb max and the top plan gives you 5tb with no weekly limits (it's pretty expensive though).

Not as cheap as iCloud, but not really sure what limitations that has? I like the private links on Vimeo that can be used by anyone on any platform even if they aren't a member.

Thanks to both of you. I’ll check them all out. It does seem like maybe video libraries in the cloud might not be mature. There are plenty of options to just dump the storage. That’s kind of what I have right now with Amazon. I’ll have to really research and think about importing all these video to Photo’s and maybe “sharing “ them with my children. Conceptually this seems to be ideal. Reality might be a ton to import. Some of the videos are almost a GB. I personally would love to have them as part of my Apple experience.

For professionals, there are decent options.
I use 1TB Dropbox account to deal with clients and actually used it for rushes/dailies.
It might be overkill but honestly always have a small backup sitting in a different place.
I have lost too many personal photos/videos in the last 30 years via digital mishaps :(
Recently my fiancee lost her all her data due to her Samsung phone dying.
I should have been diligent and backed that up the minute we started dating.

Thanks. In terms of backup - I have these video (and photo's) backed up to five external HDD's. I know it's overkill, but a few of the drives are really old (from my Window's days). I have a Seagate, HP (My Backup), G-Drive, Time Capsule, and another cheapo I got off Amazon. In addition, another copy is on Amazon Drive. It's almost like I am losing track of where everything is and it's making me anxious, lol!

The best way to share a video is to put it on You Tube. One reason is the "everyone" knows how to use You Tube and it works any device including set top boxes.

But it is NOT a storage of archive solution. For that you want a storage and Archine company. Backblaze's B2 is the lowest cost per gigabyte. It's like 1/2 cent per month. And of course you'd have a few copies at home and maybe at the office too.

My main point here is that storage and backup is NOT the same as distribution and publishing. You will not find anything that does both well at the same time.
