Hello,
I'm looks for advice on installing new cards and extra RAM into my 2009 mac pro 4,1 (8 core). Here are the details.

RAM
I'm about to add 32GB [4x 8GB - DDR3 ECC] of RAM. Currently have 4 of the 8 slots filled with 4x 2GB - DDR3 ECC). So, planning to fill up all 8 slots for a total of 40GB.

CARDS
I'm replacing the old gfx card (ATI Radeon HD 4870 512 MB) with two cards, a GTX 570 for processing & a GT 640 for monitoring. I'm also putting a Blackmagic decklink mini monitor in as well.

So I'm chasing any handy advice on how I should approach all this. Can it be done in one fell swoop? Or should the RAM go in followed by the cards?

Cheers,
Tim Mummery

I believe the 8GB and 2GB RAM modules don't like each other. hence they will not work.. only put in 16Gb or 8GB or 1-4GB modules..

for the graphics cards, perhaps look at the new Sapphire HD7590 Mac version.. that one can drive up to 4 displays from a single card.. think that would be a better option (cost/performance wise)
