I am looking to buy a MacBook Pro, I have narrowed it down to two choices

June 2017 - MacBookPro - 3.1GHz Dual Core i5 - 8GB RAM - 512GB SSD - $2400

July 2018 - MacBook Pro - 2.3GHz quad-core i5 - 8GB RAM - 256SSD - $2300

I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on which I should choose. The 2017 model has more space but the 2018 one has a quad core processor.

I will be mainly using it for database, web development, writing, excel, minor photo editing. Will never be used for games.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Only you can make an informed choice, but if it were me I would choose the 2018 model because of the faster CPU. Its storage is half that of the 2017 model but you can always add a fast external TB3 SSD to supplement the space.

I'd take the quad core for sure. I'm thinking that the extra horsepower will provide longevity. Storage is easy to upgrade via external SSD, NAS etc.
