The MacBook Air is currently mid-cycle (according to the Buyer's Guide). That means you can't go wrong either way. If you want the latest-and-greatest you may wish to wait for the M3 as it's rumoured to be a larger upgrade than M1 -> M2 was. However, bear in mind that chasing after the latest tech is a losing game because there's always going to be a new shiny thing just right around the corner.

Think about what you need vs. want and if an M2 can do it all I think it's still a sound purchase despite being 9-months since release.

I won't lie to you,

sometimes the upgrades are marginal just speck bumps and it doesn't matter much

but sometimes the upgrades are a generational upgrade like the move from intel to M chips, those are worth waiting.

Unfortunately, we can't tell the future.

I think you are always better off waiting unless you need something now or if there is a compelling deal on offer. So, if I were you, I would wait. There are a litany of reasons both near term and long term to do so -- especially if you plan to keep the computer for a very long time.

You never did tell us really what you plan to use the computer for as far as apps. That should help guide your choice.
