I am thinking of buying the 2016 MacBook at my local Currys/PC World but how do I know I am buying the 2016 version and not the 2015 version. Is the box different or is there stuff written on the box I should notice so I know I'm actually buying the 2016 MacBook and not the 2015 model? Please advise.

Firstly, I would advise you to either wait 3 months for the 2017 MacBook, or buy the base 13" MacBook Pro if possible (It is basically a 12" MacBook with all of the problems fixed).

But if you need the 12" MacBook now, then you can tell the difference because the processor will be labelled as "Core m3" or "Core m5" for the 2016 model.

The 2015 model has all processors labelled under the "Core M" name.

The box should have a label show the config of MB12, which need notice is m3 /m5/m7,
Display card is : HD515

There is no sufficient improve between Kaby and Skylake, as new CPU show a little bit fast graphic card,
if you require computer now, is good for buy it, don't wait when you buy MacBook but try to thing are you need it.

Is any major problem of MB12 2016?

Also, new MacBook pro 2016 non touch / touch is not trouble free, don't buy any machine that Apple hungry sell period (about 4-6 month after launch) which the quality and the driver is not stable.

Mac OS, System Info/About window or something like that (not familiar with Mac OS :)) , will tell you the version as well so check that when you first turn it on and send it back if it's the older one.

Shouldn't really be a problem with Apple products though. Don't think the 2015 version is even available anymore. Don't worry.

If you can, I would also recommend waiting a few months for news of the 2017 refresh.

I just bought a MacBook 2016 on eBay for $914, still under warranty until May. I think getting it at such a discount is worth it, but if you're going to spend $1299 plus tax you might as well wait or put in the extra $100 or so and get the pro 13 without touchbar.

There will be a label on the back of the box that indicates the order/part number. E.g. MF855LL/A would be a 2015 while MLH62LL/A would be 2016. The wikipedia page for the MacBook indicates which numbers go with which laptop.

The MacBook was introduced in April 2015 and updated in April 2016, so its a safe assumption that it will probably be updated in April 2017.

Thanks for the replies.

I figured another way to identify if it is a 2016 model is by looking at the back of the box and seeing what kind of ram it uses. I believe the 2016 models use a 1866mhz ram chip and the old 2015 model uses a 1600mhz ram chip.

I ordered the intel m5 MacBook 512GB in Space Grey. Currys/PC World have a sale on where it is £100 cheaper than any of the other stores selling it. Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow. The reason I opted for the MacBook is because I was attracted to the compact size and it is fanless which is a bonus. I already own a 15inch MacBook Pro (Late 2013 model) so the 12inch MacBook will be for on the go as it is lighter.

Picked up my new MacBook from Currys/PC World and I am very happy with my new purchase. The 12 inch MacBook is a sexy looking little laptop.

I chose space grey because it looks great in space grey and the build quality and design is absolutely awesome. I put it on and installed Propellerhead Reason and did a test to see how good this little laptop is by playing a couple of CPU intensive demo songs and by surprise the MacBook handled it with no problem at all. I am very impressed.

My only complaint about the MacBook is the absence of the MagSafe but I'm not really bothered about there being one USB-C port because I bought an adapter with four USB 3.0 ports that connect to the USB-C port. Anyway, the retina 12 inch MacBook is cute, sexy and more powerful that I thought it would be which was a surprise considering the reviews I read mentioned it was underpowered.

Great to hear you are happy with it.
I am looking forward to buy the new 2017 rMB with the improved keyboard. Maybe some minor changes like Kaby Lake will be nice too.

You can currently buy the 16 M5 512gb from Argos for £1299. Check my other thread.

Yeah, I read the post about the MacBook going for £1299 at Argos. In fact I was one of the first who replied.
