I live in a 2 story + basement apartment home. I keep my AEBS in the basement. Machines include two 11n laptops, one 11n desktop one 11b AEX.

I get perfect reception an all corners of all floors. However, when I go to the backyard, literally 15 feet from the router, I get almost no reception (one bar that comes and goes). Any idea why this would be the case? Is there some sort of directional setting I can change?

Just move your AE if you can.

To show you how fickle range can be, I have Uverse router inside a cabinet and had *no* issues with range beyond being limited by its b/g. Bought a TC and put it inside the same cabinet - no signal beyond 6 feet vs whole house before TC. Pulled the TC out and placed it on top of the cabinet, now range is stronger and further than Uverse before it.
