    Hi,

I'am looking for a 3 or 4 Bay Raid 5 System with Firewire 800 for my Mac. I have found some (Promise Smartstor ds4600 for example) which are in the price range.
The only problem is that my Mac is located in the room I am sleeping in, so the Raid device should not produce any noise when the drives are spun down.

Is there any solution you can recommend?

You might consider an OWC enclosure. (macsales.com) I just got one of their 2-drive RAID enclosures and I really like it. The fan is pretty loud when it's running but I use it for media file backup so I only have it turned on when I'm actually using it so it doesn't bother me.

What about using a gigabit connected NAS instead? Faster even than FW800, and you can now put it anywhere in your house, instead of having to have it in the same room.
