Affordable plan w/o contract for 1 week US trip?

Can someone recommend an affordable plan for someone from Germany with an unlocked iPhone 3GS, who would like to use web/internet with the iPhone while staying in the US (New Orleans) for a week?

As you know, data roaming charges are horrendous.

If nothing suitable comes your way in an answer to this, perhaps try this?

Assuming you are coming to New Orleans to visit someone, perhaps have the friend buy an iPhone, let you use it for that week you are here, and she/she returns it after you leave? There will be a 10% restocking fee, but I am sure you would gladly pay that.

You could just get a prepaid plan. Dunno about data charges though.
