For such a powerful AIO, why limit to 32gb ram in the HP?

If HP Envy 34 shares a common motherboard with Envy 32, then it will have two SO-DIMM slots. 64GB max possible currently.

Envy 32's chassis design is quite messy internally:

As an AIO, looks like the level of iMac chassis before the aluminium unibody. That's more than a decade ago.

Lots of parts are user-replaceable: M.2 NVMe, M.2 WiFi/BT modules, CPU, GPU, 2.5-inch SATA and etc. So that's a huge plus to power users as well as ppl who want to start with a basic config and do incremental upgrades when necessary.

Let's hope the upcoming big iMac won't be a giant iPad on a stand..

I predict that's exactly what it WILL resemble, with no user-replaceable parts inside.

I will freely admit that the HP nails the specs for our studio use. Fast single core, great screen size and resolution plus great GPU.

Really I am finding it very hard to fault in terms of specs and appearance. I will await the reviews and probably order one too to play with, along with the new Surface laptop studio and MacbookPro 14" for my personal projects. Still love my mac, but I will make far more $$ using the PC's.

Much better to work system agnostically and use the best OS for your work. I tried so hard to keep the studio on Apple, but the reality is we have gone from strength to strength on PC's and realised the macs were actually holding us back.

There are pro's and cons to macs and PC's and each have inherent benefits.
There is no need to shout down someone for realising that one or the other may suit them better for certain tasks. I would say this rational approach will provide dividends, and it is those who are blinkered who lose. Personally I use macs, professionally I use windows.

WOW! that 34" HP is a Beast! Windows 11 too.
You should be able to turn it into a dual boot mackintosh too using open core. Has an intel i9 processor.
Just need right ktexts for sound, video card and wireless and bluetooth.

Too bad there is no price yet.

Goodbye APPLE. APPLE silicon just locks you into the APPLE HELL of the Genius Bar and being at APPLES MERCY.

none of the new machines Apple has on offer now strike a balance between price and performance. It’s either a large iPad dressed up as a computer, or a $7000 beast with $500 wheels you buy separately. What a joke.

the Machine Apple should have made is already here:

goodbye Apple. Nice knowing you.
The HP is an attractive computer and I've always been a fan of HP, through all of their ups and downs.

But it is a Windows computer, so that pretty much eliminates it from consideration, as far as I'm concerned.

being windows opens up other opportunities that are not available on the mac...........
Yes, the opportunity to deal with failed updates, drive letters, directory paths with the slashes pointing in the wrong direction and all sorts of other irritations.

OTOH Windows does give you a great choice of hardware. I am not sure why someone would replace a 2020 iMac already unless they didn't spec it properly to begin with but if I did move away from Apple it would not be to an HP AIO or any other HP (or Dell). I would build my own custom desktop in a tower case. I am not using an iMac because I like AIOs, I am using a Mac because I like MacOS and Mac Pros are absurdly expensive.

If you love it that much, then why don't you marry it!?
well they are more open and have more ports, but would probably cause issues long term.
Depends if you like it cheap and quick or expensive and long term I guess.

Lucky for me I use both……….

No….one….cares
Apparently we all care. How can we not? I mean, this is a very important topic that we're discussing; someone is leaving Apple's iMac computer after more than 2 years and decides to write about hop HP is the better choice.

I think that's wort caring about - especially since the author of the thread cares so much. Are we not compassionate people or are we all rock hard?

HP is making some some great hardware these days. It also offers a variety of devices for people at many different price points. Too bad they cannot license MacOS. But as far as windows-based machines go, HP is getting it done these days.

From the original article above:
"Its 34-inch 5120 x 2160 (aka 5K) factory-calibrated IPS display sports a 21:9 aspect ratio and rather slim bezels, all contained in a clean silver color."

Hmmm...
This is one of the first 5k larger-than-30" panels I've yet seen.

The article doesn't say who the display's manufacturer is (unless it's HP, but I'm thinking possibly Samsung or LG).

Might Apple be using the same (or similar) display panel for the upcoming "large screen" iMac?

As I'm older and my vision isn't what it once was, I find the 27" 5k iMac (running at "looks like" 1440p) to yield an image that is "too small" for my needs.
I reckon that a 32-24" 5k display, running in HiDPI mode @ "looks like 1440p" would "hit the spot" for me instead.

But there weren't any on the market previously, that I could find (at least at a reasonable price).

I'm wondering if the 34" 5k display will be available as a "standalone monitor" as well?
Could be perfect for the upcoming m1x Mini...
My thoughts exactly, the display is the interesting thing in this thread. It could be from LG. Courtesy of TFTcentral:

A new 5K2K Ultrawide IPS Panel in 40″ Size

An interesting new panel size/format has appeared in their [LG] plans as well. The LM400RW1-SSA1 is expected to go in to production in Q1 2021 and will offer a 40″ sized IPS panel. It has a 5120 x 2160 resolution which is an ultrawide format close to 21:9 aspect ratio. This panel would be curved with a 2500R and offers 1000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness and 98% DCI-P3 specs so far.

I’m not good at reading sarcasm, so I’m not sure if you‘re serious. But frankly, the original post smells a bit trolly to me.

It was indeed meant as a sarcastic comment :D and I agree - it's as if there's a bounty from any PC manufacturer if it's possible to infiltrate a Apple/Mac forum with senseless comments about buying an HP computer after 20+ years.
I bet thread starter is also one of those people who says out loud in a store "I'm never setting my foot here again!" and then makes a scene, knocking things off shelves.

I mean after 20+ years!!! That must mean that Apple is doomed. The thread starter for sure has given up.

I'd say we all clap thread starter out with trumpets and fanfare since that person has seen the light after 20+ years!!!

I'm so happy to have found this community of wonderful, loving humans open to all views and perspectives! It's like they relinquish their pride and aren't stubborn to a fault or insecure in the slightest, they take criticism with judicious and cordial consideration, all with open arms as if saying "it's okay brother, none of us are so flawed as to religiously attach to a company, we all have different needs, criticism helps us understand ourselves and each other better, we are here for you always, and since this is a discussion forum we would love to hear your thoughts on your new journey" ... just so refreshingly positive, I am beside myself with emotion, pardon me
It’s fine. Ususal moronic comments. I bet u can find them on the ‘iphone13 shipping’ forum all excited for their new phone, which I really don’t care about. The difference is, I am not on there telling them that.

I think the point of the discussion is where is apples larger iMac and will it tick as many boxes as the HP one. I have my doubts for sure, and the HP looks a great computer to compare against.

It will absolutely destroy HP's computer. Don't even hesitate to think that. Unless you need legacy software or windows compatibility... then you're screwed. (not sarcasm!)

As to when it's coming. It's not like there haven't been some pretty incredible circumstances surrounding the world atm, so I'm willing to give Apple a break on release schedules. I'm less willing to give them slack though when it comes to features or lack thereof.

I believe the iPhone 13, while a very capable and solid piece of kit, is missing FaceID unlock with masks on OR TouchID. That would have turned the 13 into a killer release. But I don't believe this will happen with the next iMac 30". I think, just like the soon to be released MBPs, it's gonna blow us away.

I have reborn faith in Apple's computer line after the poor to average releases of 2016-19
