BOTH are phenomenal. I’m keeping both.

But I will say this: the iPhone 8 feels like a “perfected” 4th iteration of the iPhone 6. It feels like a model we’ve seen before but has been “mastered.” It is boring to some, but to me it is a JOY to use. It’s a really great phone.

The iPhone X is bananas. It’s the best phone EVER made. Can’t even really call it a phone. It’s on a whole new level, in a category of its own.

But I do feel like it could be improved- both hardware and software. It’s kind of big for me, kind of heavy, a little thick too. The software- meh. Just doesn’t seem like a finalized iOS for this device.

TLDR I don’t think anyone could be unhappy with either contrary to what the forums say. I mean we truly are living in the future.

I'll add to this. I've kept both my 8 Plus and the X. The 8 Plus is exactly the phone I wanted in the 6Plus way back. Solid construction, no flex, great display and cameras, battery life every iPhone envies, and features the androids have had for a while like Qi charging.

The X is a great phone, small for on the go, battery life similar to what the plus has, but not quite, and simple UI. It still has some bugs to be worked out, but I do enjoy this device as well. As a means of making life simple, I got a second number with my carrier and set the phones up where they call and ring off the first "primary" number and no taking cases off and swapping sim cards.

But if you had to get only one, I think it really comes down to screen size. If you can make due with the iPhone 8 size display, only taller, then the X is perfect. If screen size is critical, the 8 Plus would be my recommendation. With either you can't go wrong.

I never considered an iPhone X vs iPhone 8 Plus comparison even though everyone is comparing those 2.

For me it’s about size. The iPhone 8 and iPhone X are more comparable in size.

I could never hold the iPhone 8 Plus one handed with ease.

I believe the next year iPhone X will be totally deferent this year one is a prototype

I certainly hope so. However even if they make a few changes I think that will be for the better. If everybody raves about the new phone then Apple won’t change it, but if they do complain a lot, maybe Apple will change it

I passed on the iphone X and got the 8 plus mainly because it’s not 16 x 9. I played with both side by side and did not like all the cropping and wasted top and bottom space on the X. Basically the screen size I could live with but not how it deals with all of its content. Hopefully next year they will offer a plus version at 16 x 9. So it’s actually compatable with all the media played on it.

It's very likely there will be a plus model, but I'll go on record saying it will not be 16:9, but 19.5:9 just like the current X (I started a thread discussing the resolution, A/R, etc.).

iPhone 8 is still a great device for it's price very similar to previous generation with updated internals and wireless charging. The X is a 1st generation product including bezel less display and Face-ID for those who are ready to adopt new technology and welcome change.

The iPhone X is not a 'Prototype' or 'Beta.' It's the first iteration of a new Series. A Prototype is a new type of machine or device that is not yet ready to be made in large numbers and sold to the masses.

your last sentence it's absolute right but next year model will be better as Apple knows to do

I tried using two phones once. Wow, I will never ever do that again. One phone is good enough for me. That said, if you have the $ - would be cool to take out the iPhone X one day and the 8 another day. Though, I'd like to think that after a few weeks of doing that, I'd make a decision and just use one and give the other one to someone else (or return it because my bank account couldn't handle 2 $1k phones atm).

Not bashing you at all - just saying what I'd do. Love to read about other people's experiences. Thanks for taking the time to write about your experience. Would love to see what you think 2 weeks from now or a month from now.

I love my 8. I also have a Galaxy S8 for my android fix. Using 2 phones may seem like overkill but they are both very different - I couldn't say which one was best, they're both pretty good.

Despite having the money, I felt the X to be too expensive (although obviously cheaper than owning the 2 I do have).

It’s weird when people say the X is a Beta product or unfinished but aren’t most IPhones still in Beta if you really think about it. On Android you pretty much get a phone and unless it’s a Google phone you may get one major or minor update and that’s it, which seems like your getting more of a finished product. With Apple the IPhones are always evolving, even the IPhone 8 of today could have a totally different interface in 6 months if Apple so chooses.

You never buy a first year model car for the same reason they call the phone a beta product. iPhone iPhone 3g cracked, 6 bent, iPhone 4 antenna, iPhone 7 water seal issues. It’s an every other model thing that the kinks get ironed out

We forget the these release issues are with only a VERY SMALL percentage of the iphones sold. Most are fine for the majority of users.

Agreed, it's right on the edge of "almost too big" for me, a tad tall and top-heavy for one-handed use, but it's manageable. Would definitely prefer this overall premium look-and-feel in a form-factor between the SE and 8, closer to the 8.

You never? Who never? Some do, plenty do. All phones bend and crack if you want to be pedantic... Besides, the X has no such issues (aside from the bending and cracking if you force it) and in 2 years time I'll upgrade to something else, so what's the problem? I buy stuff now for my needs right now.

No no, you misunderstand. If it happens once and reported here, that's it, a major bug and known as a "gate" of some description.

I think never buying a first year car might not be the best analogy now. Cars of the past would stay the same for years without much change but cars of today seem like they change every year or every couple of years. Take the Chevy Impala, I bought the 2006 and it pretty much looked the same until 2013, 7 years later. But a car like the Camry I own now has changed quite often. There was a 2012 model, than a 2014.5 model yes .5, than a 2015, and now a 2018. If you wait until the second year you pretty much have the new kid of the block for a year maybe year and a half and now your old news. Lol.

Exactly, cars get refreshed with more and more regularity. Gives people reason to part with their money.

I tried the X but swapped it for an 8. Just feel the size is perfect for one-handed use, prefer Touch ID and prefer keeping the home button. If Apple can somehow remove the top bezel and give it an OLED screen that would be great but I doubt they will.

Removing the top bezel is impossible. The camera, Face ID sensors etc. go there, not to mention the all important ear piece on the phone. I mean it still is a phone right. Oh are maybe we can remove the earphone piece and just use headphones to talk. If you were to say trim the top bezel okay but remove it is a dream.
