    Hello everyone.

I recently started messing around with after effects. It is amazingly fun!!! You can create so many things with it that would take ages (if even possible) in Flash. My question is does After Effects offer any real benefit to graphic designers? Obviously it doesn't hurt to add it to your tool box but have any of you had any direct professional experience with it.

Yes. Using effects (and some excellent plug-ins) and animating properties can generate fantastic textures and images which can be exported as still images. Can come up with amazing images in minutes that might otherwise take hours or days (if at all!) to come up with manually.

I agree effects are good specially if its properly used.
I just wish I also have the talent on how to match those effects together :)

Well, the two programs serve very different purposes, and are often used together. Often times AE will be used to generate FLV content that will then be shown on the web via flash, etc. etc...

Aside from video/motion graphics work, I have (on occasion) used AE to create motion mockups for interactive applications that will eventually be coded in flash/flex. This way I can get client buy-in before we spend the time to code the motion and write the app (no flash timelines allowed in my studio!).

Scary thought: I have been teaching AE for over 12 years now! Its remarkable how *little* has changed. Its an easy to learn program that is widely used across a variety of industries.

AE is such a fun toy. I remember when i first got my copy i was on creative cow looking at stuff all the time. It was like a drug.
