i just got done jailbreaking my 3g and now i dont have any service. i was wondering what i should do. please help.

You need to uncheck activate when making the custom firmware.

maybe im a complete moron but i dont understand why you would need a "custom" 3.0 firmware restore...what is that used for?
if i just want to jailbreak my 3g with 3.0... i just need redsnow and the original 3.0 ipsw file right?

You're using Pwnage Tool correct? If so, at the top you will see expert mode. Click on that. You will get some options, go to General and uncheck activate. This screen (but uncheck it):

You must need glasses. It is right there in plain sight at the top.

You need to be using Pwnage Tool. Download it. It will solve your problem right away. 🙂
