I restored my iphone before jailbreaking it and set it up as a new one. Now that it's jailbroken how do I restore all my texts and contacts?

Sync with iTunes (texts won't come back as iTunes doesn't back those up)

I did sync it but since it's been set up as a new iphone it doesn't get my contacts back.

If you're on a mac, they should be in your address book so you could sync that back to your iphone.

If you backed it up (synced it with iTunes) before you restored it then your up-to-date contacts will be in the Address Book app on your mac. all you do then is plug your newly jailbroken iphone in, go to itunes, click on the 'Info' tab and make sure 'Sync address book contacts' is checked.

You can only recover your contacts if you had them synced with a program like Address Book before you restored. They are not part of the backup created by iTunes.

Did you have them synced with Outlook or Windows Address Book?

Oops! Hope you didn't lose hundreds of contacts. If you don't have Outlook, just use something free like Outlook Express.

Yes, I'm afraid so. Contacts are not part of an iTunes backup. Like music, videos, etc., they are synced with your computer, not backed up to it. Make sure you set up iTunes to sync your contacts to Windows Address Book to avoid this problem in the future.

Yup. That's why you should buy Mobile Me. It does over the air syncing with contacts and calendar.
