Hi there,

I just replaced my old and reliable MacBook Pro 13" 2009 with the MBA 2017. These are the main reasons,

A) Price, got it in Barcelona for 1,100 € with 256 GB, and the Office pack included.
B) Ports. I still use third party accessories , and a USB-C only computer is like having an iPad , which I already own.
C) Battery life and portability. It was a nightmare to have my old machine drain out of battery so often, so I went for the best option available in this aspect.

I have never spent more than 1,300 € for a computer, I just consider my current needs, and although the retina screen in the rest of the Apple catalogue are impressive, I don't want to spend more bucks just for it.

The MBA is a great piece of work, I just love it, it does everything I want , and my conscience is in peace for saving money to other issues. I am just a mortal who enjoys basic and reliable things in life...

After all these years it's still one of the best machines available. Age shows though - the screen isn't that great and definitely lacking by today's standards but that's about it, no other major drawbacks. Infact, some areas are even better - like the classic design with glowing logo on the back, classic keyboard instead of a beta butterfly-key one and all around it's much more beautifully designed than today's MacBooks. Well, at least in my opinion.

I remember having to choose between the MBA and the MBPr back in late 2013. The main reason I didn't go with the Air was because of the screen, I didn't want a TN panel.

The TN panel is literally the only reason I haven't bought another MBA since 2012. I've foolishly waited, hoping it would eventually be updated with a Retina display. Not gonna happen. I'll probably pick up a MBP as my new machine and sell my old trusty MBA. If only the RAM wasn't soldered in, I'd upgrade it to 8GB and swap in a new SSD and hold onto it as my secondary machine for the next 2-3 years. Ah well.
