Dear all,

I’ve updated iOS 13.5 Wednesday night.
I recall receiving a message on WhatsApp a day later, so it was working.

This morning I think WhatsApp was updated in the App Store and now it’s not working anymore and it’s driving me crazy.

The message I receive is: This app is no longer shared with you. To use it, you must buy it again from the App Store.“You can view it or cancel. Both options don’t help.
Apple support is apparently unaware - recommending to delete and reinstall, but that is my last option because I might loose valuable chat and data.

Is there anyone with a similar problem?
Any help or idea?

Do you think it is iOS or WhatsApp and it could be fixed soon so I don’t have to play around with my phone and be anxious I loose data?

Many thanks for your help!

Yep - I had the exact same thing. I deleted the app and re-downloaded it which has put me in a cycle of not being able to restore my messages. I have read that offloading the app (settings/ storage / WhatsApp / offload) is the 'right' way to fix it, but that doesn't work for me now either. Hopefully there will be a fix soon as I am stuck as I don't want to skip past this or I think I'll lose all my messages.

I just made the most ridiculous discovery:

I downloaded an App I didn’t have on my iPhone but a family member had, and immediately opened WhatsApp and it is working!!!!!

I feel like crying and laughing at the same time looking at this absolute craziness! Please try it, maybe it helps you too!

When did your problems start?

The same happened to my dad with YT. I deleted YT and downloaded it again. Started working.

Happened to me as well. One of the top few google searches tells you how to re-download without losing all your data.

You’re talking about offloading?

I didn’t want to take any chances before deleting or even offloading WhatsApp because of the data - how random is that fix??

Is that just a new problem and you’re suspecting iOS?
is it related to family sharing ?

Backup Whatapp to iCloud.

Delete WhatsApp

Download it again.

Restore from iCloud.

But you can’t backup when WhatsApp is not opening anymor, right? - so even though I am using it, the backup was a few days old and I got important data on it so I didn’t want to take that chance of losing it.

Then you’re screwed.

You could try something like Reset All Settings. Or a simple restart. But I don’t know if either would help.

But you read my fix?

I didn’t do anything like reset or delete and it started working again. And I just have not a single imagination How that could be related to fix that problem.

Sorry, I am just so amazed.

It’s not just WhatsApp. Tons of apps on my wife’s phone suddenly stopped working today, including WhatsApp.

I called with Apple support and the dude said it’s PROBABLY an IOS bug as he’s had many other questions about it today.

Indeed WhatsApp worked again after a re-installment.
Some apps started working again after a while. Others didn’t.
The once that didn’t, work again right now, as I’m typing this.
Maybe not an IOS bug but something server side?

Im sure its not iOS 13.5 but more likely some other issue causing random apps to not work/connect to their servers correctly.

My question is why in blazes is iOS doing receipt checks on FREE APPS? I could understand if they were paid apps to make sure they're licensed but WhatsApp and YouTube and such are free.

There really should be a "free app" bit set that prevents crap like this from happening for those apps.

It affected my parents iPhones's Xr, one with the YouTube App, and the other with Zoom App, had to reinstall both.

So, did a certificate expire? I wonder. Seems odd this would happen now and that a simple reinstall would fix it. Really smells like an expired certificate. This has happened before.
