I'm trying to get X11 running. I've searched the forums and although that search has helped me get this far, I am now in completely dark water.
I have /Applications/Utilities/X11.app on board. I click it and it brings up a console with different display attributes than my usual console. Clearly a different world. Ok.
So I go startx and it tells me
Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.

AbortDDX
Quitting XDarwin...
Ok.
So through Darwin ports I installed GQView. Now from an OS X terminal I can go $gqview and it grinds for a sec and then says "cannot open display".
From the X11 terminal, I go gqview and it says "gqview not found".
What's going on?
