AOE II Definitive edition is now native. As the article mentions, in the definitive edition, MS had updated nearly every part of the game, from the graphics, the UI, the AI, the civilizations. as you can see from the steam charts, it show a very respectable player base.

Well except the macOS version can't do crossplay with Windows/PS5/Xbox versions which is a pretty huge drawback.

I only play single player, so that has zero impact on me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fair, but the player-base is also irrelevant then too. 😉

It's worth noting, multiplayer is a big component of RTSs for a lot of people and restricting it to Mac v. Mac is going to limit the player base a ton.

Hate to break it to you but the mac gaming player base is largely irrelevant. I guess it will have an over all chilling effect, given that those who want online will still play it through crossover.
