Hi to you all. Long story short: had an 11 that dropped calls (Intel modem). To give me time to chose well my new iPhone, I bought a used 12 with Qualcomm modem. 12 is running very fine for now with no more drop calls. But still I want a new iPhone that will probably be my last. And now I'm trapped in the dreadly FOMO on AI. Personnally not that much concerned with AI. As a retiree, seems to me AI is a bonus for people who still work and need an assistant that will cut their workload. Am I right or wrong? And I have not much interest for genmojis and this stuff. Do you think there is much more to come with AI. Where is AI going? That's my question and my reflection on the situation. Starting to be a little fed up of searching and digging the Web.
Thanks a million times

I used s25 ultra for a while which made me show the AI on iphones right now is absolute trash. And even on S25 where I thought it was good, i barely used it. genmojis are stupid af. Juvenile at best.

But if the 12 is troubling you right now, get a 16. If not, wait for 17.

There is nothing AI will do in the next few years that's the lifetime of your new iPhone. Since the performance is very similar to the 16 series and the 16 Pro series I recommend a cheaper 15 Pro as you seem to be fine with buying used and saving money. It's got the same AI functionality.

Right now businesses like Apple are throwing AI around like a kid throwing pebbles and seeing what sticks. Apple wasn't even too interested in AI as they placed bets on their Spatial Computing but that ended up gathering even less interest. Then they quickly came up with Apple Intelligence and copied Google Lens and Google Gemini badly.

I am sure AI will be much more advanced and do crazy things we all use daily in the 2030s. By that time you'll need a new iPhone anyways as such future functionality won't be coming to an old iPhone 15 or 16 or even 17 anymore.

Hello again and thanks for your hints. Also thanks for shedding some light on AI. Yo okkibs, I want to buy new. My next iPhone will be the second new one I've ever bought. True I'm fine with buying used but thus time I want new. I set my eyes on a 16 Plus (Pro is overkill to me) or a 15 Plus. ProMotion is not a decisive factor for now. I bought the used 12 to buy me some time to have a good thought about that and later as a second full working phone. I'm trading the 11. Apple fives 150$ CDN for it.
