In the classic words of Fake Steve; Frigtarded.

If it's going to have a text tell you that you've been IMed, why not just have it forward to your phone by setting up AIM Mobile - type in your number, and IMs get sent to you in texts.

Much much better than a message telling you to go look somewhere for a message.

Haha yah it's ghetto. It might be different if you buy the app. They probably want you to open the app to get ad rev.

If not, lame on both fronts.

You ever seen the actual aim app? It's loaded with ads. The ad isn't too invasive at all.

Have the preferences always been where they are now? It seems really confusing where it is.

Otherwise, I like that you can stay logged in for 24 hours :)

In the release notes..

"AIM for iPhone is now AIM Free"

uh oh..

Sure enough, further down..

"AIM Paid is rolling through the approval cycle now and will be available soon"

So I'm definitely not going to upgrade, is there any way to get the badge off my app store? If not, I'm going to just pull AIM.app and put it in my root because my phone is Jailbroken and then my phone won't know it's installed. The new one offers me nothing usefull. Might as well use Palringo full time :(

Are the ads that noticable? Anyone have a screen grab?

They aren't intrusive at all. They fade in, and fade out shortly after (maybe 5 seconds)

They certainly aren't something to not update because of.

And this is to everyone who is bitching, its FREE. They need to generate revenue to pay for the added traffic on their servers, they can either charge you, or they can put on ads.

I agree with Jeremy, the ads are not intrusive at all, and going through loopholes just to stick it to the man seems like a waste of time.

I wish the App Store had a "hide update" feature just like OS X...

I don't get it.

I mean I get why AIM would put ads but why make a paid one? There's already Palringo that's free that offers AIM and more services and then there's Beejive.
I don't think most people would but the paid one unless its a dollar.

Most people avoid messaging you if they see "on mobile" though. Simply because its annoying waiting for a reply from someone on a mobile device :p

Is there a way to not update but still have the notification disappear? Like the person above said, hide notification?

On mobile is the most useless feature on AIM. The only way I use the AIM app is because at least it can sort the mobile contacts away from the actual availables, unlike palringo and the rest.

But I have another problem, and I'd like to ask if anybody has solutions...
When I set AIM to login for 24 hours, and then I use Adium on my mac, it SMS's me whenever somebody IMs me. Is there any way to disable notifications when I am connected on my mac?

Did you log off your account on your phone?

thats the whole point tho, I don't want to log off my phone because then once I shut off my computer I will have to remember to log back on again.

I know jabber has something called priority for clients, but I dont know about aim.

Sorry, I can't really help, I just wanted to emphasize how important this issue is. I had to log in on AIM on my iPhone and change it to log out immediately yesterday, then change it back this morning. It'll get frustrating if I have to do this on a daily basis. First post, by the way.

I updated this morning and since the update when I tap the icon it stays on "signing in..." forever. I have deleted the app, renstalled it, restarted my iPod, tried on different wifi networks. Nothing. Anything else I can do?
