AIM Problem

I installed the latest version of aim and when i go to click someone on my buddy list the IM window pops up but theres no where to type or annything its just like a blank IM. Any ideas?
 
this is running the official AIM application? just out of curiosity is there any particular reason for using it? there are much better alternatives out there for OS X. either iChat if you need video conferencing or Adium X for anything else.

the AIM client by AOL is pretty buggy and as such i haven't touched it so i'm sorry that i cannot be of more help.
