Mine does not distort when walking.

Anyone know how to embed a video?

Well, my iPad Air 2 came today, and one of the first things I did was to check the "distortion from one-hand hold". No distortion whatsoever. I asked someone who has no clue about this whole thing if they noticed anything as I moved it around gripping in different ways and no, they didn't notice anything.

The distortion/ripple effect is there by design, it is NOT a fault.
Exchange one for the other, will NOT solve your problem, it's there to stay.
All Tablets exhibit this issue, Samsung Tab 3 being the worst.

Um, no. The iPad 3 and 4 certainly does not do this. So...you're wrong.

----------

The Air 2 is thinner than the iPhone 6.

It does not mean that this will happen on all products thinner than the iPhone 6. That's the point.

Some being more sensitive than others and some showing no issue at all only proves one thing...

None of them should be sensitive.

This is a defect. There is no arguing to the contrary.

I tend to agree with those who think it's a defect with a small number of iPads as opposed to a wide spread problem.

I asked two other people who have the new iPad air ...both reported back with no issue

Awesome! I'm glad that you and your friends have been fortunate.

I've looked at well over a dozen display units at different Apple Stores, as well as the 3 I unboxed yesterday per my post above. I have yet to see a single unit that didn't display the issue to a greater or lesser extent. Most greater, a few lesser. So, what does that tell us?

Actually, neither your experience nor mine tells us very much. It is impossible to determine the overall extent of an issue like this from anecdotes posted in an internet forum. No single person posting here has seen a sufficient number of random samples to accurately judge how widespread this is. The units on display in stores that all show the issue? Well, they very likely all came from the same early production batches. Perhaps the problem has been solved in the units that are rolling off the line now. Or perhaps not--I certainly didn't have a good experience yesterday with the 3 defective ones I opened, but I have no idea when they were built. Only time will tell us whether this is an isolated production problem, or whether it represents a new design "feature" that we're expected to accept.

I gave up on the Air 1 for yellow blotchiness, bookspine and half a yellow screen, hoped the Air 2 would have sorted the issue.

I'm not sure, maybe until Apple goes down the OLED route, that we may see better results, the problem is widespread, i have been monitoring forums and inspecting ipads all last year at stores or othe people's, just that most people don't notice, my cousins retina mini had an obvious yellow bottom half and he never noticed so i didnt tell him.

I just wanted to update; I decided to give it anoyher shot and purchased a replacement at the Apple Store today. The new one is significantly better; the distortion now only occurs when pushing on the spot instead when holding it one handed. So I guess there are good ones out there.

This is entirely possible. The problem is that it seems to be somewhat of a dice roll. Returning devices is a hassle, IMO. None of them should do this.

Still unacceptable IMO.

What a petty response... Have I spelled it for you correctly this time round?
Humble pesant apologies if I haven't met your genius standards ;)

Apparently the moderators didn't like what I said in response initially. As an Australian I am offended by your poor grammar. It's embarrassing and your comments are always terribly useless.

I originally had the Wi-Fi version of the Air 2 which had the distortion spot on the back, like the display models in the Apple Store. I bought two cellular Air 2’s which do not have the distortion spots on the back. I tried pressing with the same pressure applied to the Wi-Fi, and no distortion on the cellulars.

They all seem to do it…

Having just been into an Apple Store and checked every iPad Air 2 on display, I can report that every one of them exhibited the distortion, as described. Some required a bit more 'weight' or pressure than others (ie, some did it when just picked up, others required a little bit of a squeeze), but they all did it.

So… yeah.

I hope this is the case. Would like to hear it confirmed by some more cellular model owners. I'm waiting on one to be delivered.

Great, then we have just found another Apple device which I'm not going to buy. I've so far had an iPad, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4 and iPad Air. None of them showed such an effect. I'll just keep the iPad 4 and iPad Air, although they're now even barely useful for web surfing (thanks to iOS 8 and the lack of RAM).

Only happens on mine near the center on the right side, and only if I use a greater than normal amount of force by putting pressure on the tips of my fingers. It's not a normal thing that I would do with my iPad, so I don't anticipate it being a problem. I've had mine for a couple days now and only just now experienced it after reading this thread.

This is 100% a defect.

The ipad display should never be affected by holding the device.

Anyone that says otherwise is here at Apples request to muddle the truth.

Just another data point

I went to Sam's club and they opened 6 boxes. All exhibited the defect in a similar manner to my video (holding it and the defect appears under the weight of the iPad)

They also had a Samsung galaxy tab 12.2 pro there which was way worse off. The defect appears along the edge off the entire screen.

Mine only distorts when I squeeze mine with more force than just holding it. So not a problem for me!

Don't know what to make of this. This distortion is the primary reason why I have not bought an Ipad Air 2 yet, the other one is the sound vibrations. If they would fix those two, I would be all over it.

I think we have reached the pinnacle of thin.. going further no doubt more of these distortions and bending will occur.

Thinner=fragile.

Unless we move past LCD's this will only become more prevalent.

Is it a defect? Technically, did Apple know about it before release? Probably.

Interesting times ahead as things get shaved off more and more.

Sticking with my air for a couple years anyway.

Mine does not distort no matter how much pressure I put on it.
I guess I just got lucky:)

No you are blind or work for apple
They all distort
I have a case on mine It does not make it worse at all if anything a little better Its a hard back case I blasson
I did the trade in deal at bestbuy I had an iPad 1, well worth it
This is not a major problem at all but it is there
