I haven't had a problem with this range of belkin matte ones. Had one on my iPad 3 and mini. No cracking or scratching.

The early ones were brittle and cracked at the corners as they attached around the entire corner. The design has changed slightly since then.

Same here, when I bought the Belkin Snap Shield for my iPad 3 I read stories of cracking corners. They must have changed something because mine still looked like brand new when I sold my iPad 3 for the Air.

I am confident in the new one for the Air based on previous experience.

I'm not sure what your point is. There are only a handful of people there with issues.

My point is that you're popping into a Belkin thread to give anecdotal information saying that Belkin cases have problems and suggest Switcheasy cases as "better". It flies in the faces of other threads where there's similar anecdotal information to say that Switcheasy cases crack too. Doesn't seem like overwhelming evidence to say that one is clearly better does it?

I'm not sure what your point is. There are only a handful of people there with issues. It seems like the same ones having issues with their back covers more then once. To me that is a bit suspect. One of them even admitted he or she actually dropped the iPad. The whole idea for these covers is to take the impact and damage rather then the device itself.

I had a CoverBuddy for my iPad2 and loved it, no problems at all.

Got one for my iPad3 and cracks appeared at the corners very quickly, which developed into chunks of plastic falling out. Complained to them and they sent a replacement but this developed the exact same problems a month or two later so I just gave up.

Note that the cases were not treated harshly, never dropped and the iPad wasn't taken out of the case at all so there's no reason why they should have cracked like this.

I have my own theory however...

The iPad2 case fitted like a glove - totally secure with no give or flex whatsoever. When the iPad3 came out, they released a new version but this time it was sold as compatible with both the iPad2 and iPad3, despite the latter being a slightly different shape. The iPad3 was slightly thicker and the tapered edges had a slightly different profile.

I think that, in their attempt to make one case which fitted both devices, it ended up fitting neither perfectly and there was a slight bit of flex introduced, which is what leads to the cracks forming over time.

Hopefully this will be rectified when they launch their iPad Air cases as it's a unique shape and they'll be made to fit it perfectly again but only time will tell.

If you look at the old ones they attached at the corner and a good cm or so along each edge. This didn't provide much "give" hence the cracks. The new model (I say new as in iPad 3 and mini, and now air) now attach at the corner and one edge.

If the one for the previous iPads is anything to go by I wouldn't recommend the Belkin one. Mine cracked on one of the corners after a few months and I heard of several other people having the same issue as well. I wouldn't buy it unless I had no choice. The Speck and SwitchEasy ones are far better. I'm using a SwitchEasy one at the moment on my iPad 3 and I'm hoping to get either that or the Speck one for my iPad Air.

I had one of the early run covers for the 3rd gen iPad. The corners did crack after a few months and without any drops or anything. They sent me a new one and I haven't had any problems with it since then. I loved the case and will likely get another one for the Air.

I'd rather pay a bit more and get one with a magnet on the back.

I agree with that. Last week I bought the Snap Shield Secure because I planned on keeping my 3rd gen iPad. I really got used to the magnet.

While not the most aesthetic you can use a thin strip of magnetic tape on a cheap case until one is available.

I had one of these for my iPad 3.

Does it stick crack at the edges when you remove the cover?

getting the black smart cover and belkin snap case from best buy today will see how long the snap case holds up for.. if it cracks will end up going with switch easy.

Well the Belkin Snap Shield is on the Air and I'm really happy with it, feels good in the hand too.

Is it the "clear" frosted model? That's the one I had for my 3rd gen. I recently updated it to the smoke Secure model before I knew I was going to upgrade.
