My iPhone 14 pro max will not send or receive air drops unless I change the setting to everyone, I have reset network settings, turned Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on and off, and did a hard reset, any suggestions or anyone else having this problem?

Yes! Having the exact same issue. Tried to send my husband a photo earlier and it said it was connecting but his iPhone X did nothing. But if I enable “everyone” so he shows up as just anyone, it lets me send no problem.

I can, however, Airdrop to my own devices. Just not contacts.

Same issue. Need to turn airdrop to everyone for it to work. Only seems to be issue with iPhone 14 (Pro Max).
My previous iPhone 13 Pro Max on iOS 16 had no issue with airdrop even though settings were directly transferred over

This is what happens when trying to AirDrop..... The "waiting" status never changed, but I was able to send to my husband under "Other people" instead.

Same on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. Not able to send it names. Had to change my setting to all contacts and it shows the devices. I am able to send to devices.

My wife, myself, and my mother in law all have iPhone 14 Pros and none of us were able to send pictures to each other via AirDrop last night. It just says Waiting... forever. They gave up and just sent the pictures via iCloud link in Messages.

I have found the solution and it works, but beware it is a pain to do, sign out of your iCloud and then resign back in, this fixed the problem for me

I only disabled Contacts in iCloud, selected Delete, then re-enabled it and Airdrop seems to be working fine for me now. Much less pain than signing out of iCloud altogether so I'd give this a try first, before the nuke option.
