Hi there, can i start out by saying that im new to apple, from the experience i've had with my macbook i'll never be returning to the dark side! Its been a bit of a transition but im learning... slowly

Last week my air developed a few issues, mainly a very noisy fan (which i can deal with) but more pressingly some other issues

    1. No Sound!
No sound output what so ever, the keyboard button won't adjust the volume level at all, it also has a little 'no entry' like logo at the bottom. I've taken a photo of this

    2. No keyboard lights
the keyboard lights are not working, when i try to adjust them i am greeted with the same no entry style logo on the pop up icon

    3. Bad video
Trying to watch youtube and other video sites, videos stick and pause themselves the only way to continue playing is to skip a couple of seconds.

Any ideas on what i've done or how i can remedy the issues?

To me it sounds like a bad logic bored, do you still have a warranty on it? When did you buy it?

2 months ago from Currys (a large tech retailer in the UK where i live) so it will still be under warranty - its so frustrating

Take it to Currys and demand a replacement, if they say repair take it to a store instead of letting them fix it. And next time go to the Apple Store to buy your notebook :). BTW: Curry's is like Best Buy of the UK.

Buying a Mac from Currys is like buying an Audi TT from some bloke in a sheepskin coat on a windswept and deserted industrial estate.

I'd agree with posters above, it sounds like a dead logic board. So here's what you do....

    STEP 1:
Take it back and refuse to leave until they have refunded you, and then run away as fast as your legs can carry you.

    STEP 2:
If they won't refund you, don't whatever you do, accept a swap (they'll probably give you a return) or even worse, let one of their PC monkeys take a look at it (the very worst types are like those Sys Admins, the ones who sidle up to you at work grinning like a Cheshire Cat with special needs and snort "I have a hackintosh at home you know....").

    STEP 3:
See the first part of STEP 1 - stand your ground, they'll eventually give way.

    STEP 4:
EITHER....Find an Authorised Apple Seller (or Apple Retail Store) in your area, as local as possible. The Apple UK site lists them. Or post your locale, and someone here (maybe even me) will happily recommend one.

If you absolutely MUST buy from a volume seller, then for god's sake, don't even consider anyone other than John Lewis. As much for their famed (and possibly overhyped) customer service as anything else.

    Good luck!
