i've just heard that some people have had issues with steam on macs.
From what I can see it would run fm 2011 ok, so I think i'm sold. I wish I hadn't bought my imac now, I could never go back to pc and windows now and can see this being an expensive journey :D

Steam works perfectly fine for me on my new MBA 13" base. Luck of the draw maybe? I regularly play PvZ through Steam.

Except for the football manager, I would suggest an iPad for your stated usage. Will the football manager that you want be available as an app? I took a quick look in the iTunes store and there were a couple available.

I'd far rather pay the double in price for a MBA than a limited iPad even if it was just for internet, word documents, Football Manager. FM is on the iPad but isn't as good.

By the way Football Manager is being released mainly as a download this year so you're safe with the no optical drive thing.

also its little things like chatting on facebook etc, I find is so much easier on a laptop as opposed to the ipad. I will probably get an ipad too soon, just for the 3g and to watch sky go whilst travelling.

You can still buy the FM Disc because you can just use disk sharing. There is a disk sharing utility (from Apple Downloads) for windows pcs but it's built into Mac and it means you can use your iMac's drive. Alternatively you can just copy the disk onto a USB/external HD

You should be fine with the 13" i5 128GB as my 2009 MBP could run the old FMs but and the new MBA is much faster! I use the 13" i7 to accommodate my development needs.

just ordered it from the apple store and thanks to a few minutes on google, managed to find a way to access the education store and get the base 13" for £945 aswell as recieve a free £65 itunes card :D saving of over £200 :p

Just buy both. That's what I did and it's great.

No trying to decide, just get them both. Can't be beat.

just got home to my delivery...of the £65 gift card but not my MBA. Do apple always send these seperately?

Have you considered switching your iMac 27" for a MBA + ACD 27"? That way you have the same screen real state while at your desk, and you still have a portable MBA while on the couch... all wrapped up into one single machine.
