with the recent 4.3 update Watch OS that lets you charge your watch in portrait is this a sign Apple are getting ready for the air power release? Or do you see them waiting until later in the year?

I thought it would silently release alongside the HomePod. Now that it didn't, this leads me to believe a 'Spring' Keynote will be held releasing it perhaps alongside the rumored SE 2, refreshed Watch bands, etc. Perhaps between late March and June WWDC. But undoubtedly it should release before the 2018 Fall Keynote, as that Would would be almost a year later from when it was announced.

Kinda bizzare. Four product reveals last year for delayed devices. Unless I'm forgetting something else.

iPhone X, Wireless AirPods Case, AirPower and HomePod.

also they would need to release the airpods case as well
chances are they release both at the same time

hopefully it's released before the SE2 but maybe they will tie it in to that event.

I suspect the Airpower, updated AirPod wireless charging battery case, iPhone SE 2 will all be updated at the same time if there is a spring Keynote. Or, those items could be silently updated as they did with the 2017 9.7 iPad amongst other miscellaneous accessories.

But does the portrait nightstand mode have anything to do with lying flat on a mat? I thought it had more to do with the various stands that have it upright oriented that way.

Both will need FCC approval.

iPhone X got approval 4 weeks before release date.

HomePod got approval 3 weeks before release date.

So it's at least 3-4 weeks away still. ;)

Except that the Airpower doesnt have wireless communication such as Wifi or Bluetooth so FCC approval is irrelevant.

Are you sure? I thought most wireless chargers need FCC certification. My mophie one has an FCC certificate number and lots are being advertised on Amazon as FCC certified.

Nope! Now your making me doubt myself - but thats a good call then if they need FCC cert we are still looking at another 4-6 weeks :(

I’m a former FCC attorney, but not AT ALL in this area (broadcast television). What they would potentially need, I think, is something from the FCC showing that its transmission of energy in the radio frequency won’t interfere with the transmission of actual communications by others using the relevant ranges of the spectrum.
