I purchased a 4 pack of AirTags one for each of our family members. Unfortunately I did not know that my iP10 would not work properly so my kids with the newer phone started using theirs. Since they always have their keys with them it’s worked great.

I updated my phone and added the air tag. I change my keys depending on what car I’m driving. Sometimes wife and I switch depending on who needs the larger vehicle. When this happens it beeps. Can this be toggled off ? Or linked by family sharing ?

Thanks

This is because it’s designed to be an alarm when it gets stolen. Turning that off defeats the entire point of the AirTag. All I could suggest is to swap them round when you need to switch keys

Wow...that explanation was SO wrong! AirTags "beep" or "chirp" when they've been away from their owner and are moved (after as little as a few hours) - this is part of the anti-stalking features that Apple has implemented - so they can't be used to track people.

As far as family sharing - the answer is no - likely the most sought after feature - been requested by most airtag customers since they've come out.

And, AirTags will work fine with your iPhone X - your phone just doesn't have the UW1 chip, so doesn't support precision finding - the bulk of the heavy lifting for AirTags is done via bluetooth.
