I'm using the latest beta air video hd server , in the preference section theres a new option for hardware acceleration decoding and encoding
should i turn this on for better streaming? is this going to use more cpu or less

In theory it should lessen the load on your CPU. Basically, instead of the software doing all of the heavy lifting and running a bunch of processes to encode and decode video, the software will put to use a special node in your processor for that exact purpose. Your Mac Mini should be compatible, as it has a newer intel processor in it. I would say enable it and see if it makes using your computer while streaming easier. :)
