Guys,

1, I've hosted the AirDrop Enabler 7.0+ installer at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u...llrec/airdropenabler.178_1.0_iphoneos-arm.deb , should you want to avoid adding (even temporarily) pirate Chinese Cydia repos like the 178 one.

2, on the iPad 3, a full reset is required before it starts be discovered as an AirDrop receiver.

3, no video transfer seem to be supported.

1. I am using the 178 one becuase this repo includes some Chinese theme and stuff designed for Chinese user. I am a Chinese user, so this one is one of the must repo for me.

2. I think After installed the AirDrop Enabler 7.0+, you need respring the spring board. After that, AirDrop seems worked perfectly.

3. I really want to avoid transfer videos using AirDrop at all cost. Even transfering between iPad mini and iPad mini Retina seems slow to me. I rather want transfer them through computer or simply use iFiles.

I love apple stuff and products, but if there is one thing that annoys me to no end its this, there is nothing wrong with iPad 3 doing Blur Effects, Transparency, and having Air Drop.

Its Apple that wants your device to feel inferior so you'll upgrade. Air Drop might be the only thing that was in the best interest for the customer because without BT 4.0 LE it could be a battery drain, but no worse then leaving your Bluetooth on a iPad 2 or iPhone 4s or below.

Argh Apple......

this....

You know what apple wants above anything else? , sell more ipads it's a company they want to make profit.

No iPad has keyboard blur in 7.0, they introduced this with 7.1 (on my Air at least.)

iPad 4th gen and both iPad Minis have keyboard blur but older iPads below 4 do not. I am hoping for a tweak that lets me make my keyboard on my jailbroken iPad 2 have the blur effect too, tried the iPhone 4 Parallax enaBlur and it works flawlessly, giving the notification panel and control center the same frosted glass effect I have on my iPhone 5.

This angers me! If a jailbreak tweak can make airdrop work on "non compatible" devices, then apple can make it work too! I hate how they intentionally withhold functions from older devices in order to make you buy new ones! Not only that, basically every non apple phone, even grandma phones, have Bluetooth function w/ any other phone. Seriously Apple. Get it together.

Does AirDrop on iPad 3, using this method, works without having both devices connected to the same wireless network?

Does the AirDrop tweak not work on the iPhone 4S? Respring the device and have been seeing posts on reddit claiming that rebooting the device doesn't work either. So far it seems to be work on iPhone 4 and iPad 3.

4S is BT 4.0

Is that the only requirement?

You'd think with how iPad 3 owners were kind if screwed over by Apple they'd at least get AirDrop functionality.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't AirDrop use Wi-fi Direct for file transfers? I thought that was the reason older devices could not support this feature. AirDrop only uses bluetooth to search for available devices, then estabilishes a Wi-fi Direct connection to transfer the file (faster than bluetooth).

Guess so, I think the AirDrop Enable makes it use the bluetooth just as it has been used for file transfers for ages.

Should be interesting if someone could check the speed difference?

edit: Just saw that you can send via airdrop to devices which supported it in the first place;
How is this possible (without jailbreaking the other device) when it uses BT 4 and WiFi direct?

edit2: did some quick research and found this: click. The developer of the tweak says it's just working on the iPad 3. Is it possible, that it got Bluetooth 4 and Wifi Direct but anyway did not get the feature? That would be a really nasty move by apple...

Airdrop between my iPhone 4 and iPad 3 does not work( They don't find each other). How did you get yours to work?

Does this work for devices that are not already on the same wifi network? There was a similar hack for older MacBooks with AirDrop a few years ago, but it was much more restricted then "real" AirDrop.
Proper functioning AirDrop will work between devices without doing any configuration on the devices.
Otherwise, while you have the UI from AirDrop that works with some extra effort, it's not the same tech.

It may work for you, but you never know how well it may work on a larger scale,
like 2/3 of all iPad 3 users. If they can't make it work as well as they would like to, why would they enable to just so people can bitch about it and get bad press just so a handful of people can have a good user experience? As you might already know, it only takes a few people online to make a minor issue like it's affecting all the users.

This isn't a PC or Android device with insane amounts of hardware fragmentation, if it works on one iPad 3 it should work identically across all iPad 3s.

The press didn't even make a big deal about 7 being undercooked on the iPad when it launched, and pretty much none of them pointed out and questioned why the Mini had blur and the 2 didn't despite having the same A5 chip. It's a shame that none of them are making a fuss about this jailbreak tweak bringing it back on 2s and 3s and working fine, might have given us a slim chance for 7.1 final to bring it back officially.

I've been told for the airdrop function to work on iPhone 4 and iPad 3, a respring is required. And if that doesn't work, rebooting the device would be necessary.

Sometime it might just take sh*it long time for iPad or iPhone to find AirDrop enabled device. It happened with my iPad mini and iPad mini retina... Just takes awhile for these devices to find each other.

AirDrop is pretty half baked on iOS...

Installed the airdrop tweak on my ipad 3 and when I try to activate it from control centre an Apple ID sign in message (same as when you buy something from the App Store) appears. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I got the same thing. I then tried to send a file to my iPad. I I got the file offer and accept the file. It showed it transferred successfully from my iPhone. But I have no idea where the file was saved on my iPad.

Did you sign in when it asked you. I'm a bit worried by this as I cannot remember my iphone 5 ever asking to sign in when using airdrop.

I did sign in. I hope I didn't give my password away. Looks like it's time for me to change it.
