I'm experiencing difficulties with AirDrop on my old iMac and iPhone X. In photos on the iPhone AirDrop (logo) has recently totally disappeared. (On the phone) I've traditionally used it very successfully to quickly transfer iPhone photographs onto the Mac. The Mac is set to “allow me to be discovered by anyone” & is a Late 2012, 21.5 inch. I'm thinking the possible causes could be either that I have recently upgraded to an external SSD, as my boot drive or that I have not upgraded the operating system to the new version (Catalina). I've checked App Store and all apps are up-to-date I am running Mojove. The iPhone is on 13.6 & that is up to date, according to the phone settings. I don't particularly want to update to Catalina as I know that some of my software will then not work. I'd appreciate any help greatly.

I am not sure what you have tried yet, but go to your Settings and search for Air Drop to see if it is still on your system and perhaps just not showing up. If it is there I would power off , wait a few minutes, and power back on to reset your settings. I apologize if you have already gone this route, but you did not list anything you have tried yet.

Thanks. I’ve tried loads of things. Do you mean on the phone (I think you must) airdrop has definitely disappeared from settings to. I’ve turned it off and on again, a few times to.

What do you mean exactly? Is there no Airdrop section in settings? If there isn’t, it seems like one particular bluetooth chip that is necessary for Airdrop is broken. This is just a presumption.

Yep! Absolutly. Nothing. No mention of AirDrop whatsoever. I’ve tried on WiFi and 4g. Also when at my parents their Mac didn’t appear on the iPhone either. Loads on utube. Followed to the letter (apart from the upgrade). Nothing.
