AirDrop working between iOS and OS X?

Ever since the system was supposedly able to airdrop files between iOS and OS X, I've been unable to get it to work between any of my compatible devices. How has your experience been?

I struggled to get it working until I figured out my firewall settings were blocking it. Now it works fine.

The Bluetooth hardware on my Mac is too old so I've never gotten it to work.
