I have Yosemite 10.10.3 on my iMac and iOS 8.3 on my iPad Air.
Even when Bluetooth is switched on on both computers (and they recognized each other) and being on the same WiFi-network, I sometimes can't send files from my iMac to my iPad.

How does this come, and what can I do to prevent it ? Instead of allowing a gain of time, it becomes a pure loss of time and loss of faith in the Apple environment.

    Thanks for your help,

Stop using it.... it takes ages for my Mac to find my i6.... 90% of the times it doesnt work.... you have to reboot mac or your iphone each time. So many wifi issues on Yosemite... lets wait and see what El Capitan will solve.

Yeah, Airdrop is pathetic between Mac and iOS. I gave up on it a while ago.

I found that only later versions of Mac gear will work with airdrop.
Late 2014 devices may work. But don't bother with say and iPhone 5s and a two year old MacBook.
I spent a hour on phone with apple. In spite of what the specs say they could not get it yo work.

Try again when El Cap is released, discoveryd is being replaced with mDNSResponder which might help.

A friend of mine with a 2014 MBP says he has issues quite often, I'm using a Late 2012 iMac and iPhone 6 / iPad Air and it works with no problem in both directions.

Oh, I should say I'm using an Apple router (now Extreme, previously Express). My friend has a different router.

iOS 8.4 is still using discoveryd, you might have to wait until it's rolled back to mDNSResponder with iOS 9.
