How has no one mentioned ORB software here yet? Allows for audio, video, picture, document, and even TV streaming. (if you have a tuner card) Works well over 3g and WiFi. It allows use as wireless headphones for your pc anywhere. It is pretty much the one app I couldn't live without.

I can't wait until they finish the Mac version. I bought an EyeTV just for this reason.

Go to the Orb support forums and you can download a Mac version in development. It won't do live TV steaming but it does allow you to watch many non-iPhone format (avi, mpg, wmv) videos stored on your Mac and external drive.

ooTunes is another great server app but more expensive ($20 for the server compared to $10 for Orb's app). It's coup de force is that it allows real player streams (finally BBC radio outside UK!!!) and DRM'd iTMS videos (which is handy when you have too many to store/synch on the iPhone).
