(Couldn't seem to find an existing discussion of this. Am I really alone with this issue?)

iOS 17 does various changes to AirPlay, and some are welcome, but for a while now, I’ve been getting a pulsating AirPlay icon in the status bar:

This seems to appear if I play something via AirPlay, but then never disappears. I can tap it to get the audio switcher, but it stays after switching, even if I pick the iPhone speaker. Quitting the app that plays audio doesn’t help either.

It isn’t just annoying (it’s animated and kind of intense); it also means I don’t have a clock in the top left.

I imagine this is a bug (I’ve filed FB13021688), but does someone have a workaround in the meantime?

They’ve at least changed it (I think?) so that it now shows the clock, just in a blue circle.

But yeah, happens a lot. Do you happen to have a third-party AirPlay device like me?

Mine hasn’t changed 😭.

No I’m normally airplaying to the original HomePod when it does it.
