Hi

I have a very annoying issue, I have a HomePod mini, when I say "hey siri" play some music it starts playing fine.

When I go to another room or just look at my iPhone I get the now playing screen on the lock screen, if I unlock my iPhone and go to play some music also via apple music app the now playing screen has selected the HomePod mini as the default speaker to play from!

So if I select iPhone speakers within the airplay selection the HomePod mini stops playing music downstairs.

Its nothing to do with subscriptions as i'm on apple one family, its just the fact that airplay likes to switch devices on its own.

Can anyone help.

Thanks

At the bottom of the AirPlay selection list on your iPhone should be a round button that says "Control Other Speakers and TVs" - Hit that, then choose iPhone. That will dismiss the Now Playing screen from the Mini, and let you start new music on your iPhone (While the Mini continues to play whatever it was playing)

Thank you very much, not had a chance to try yet, but this is great. It's been really annoying me.🤬😄

I still find it odd that the airplay switches to a device automatically, by just saying "hey siri play music", as Im not physically air playing from another device to the HomePod. strange.

It can be a little confusing at first but when you get the hang of AirPlay, it’s great. It recognizes where media is coming from and puts the controls right at your fingertips in case you don’t want to bark orders at Siri. For example, when I watch TV late at night and everyone is sleeping, “Now Playing” auto pops up with the content I’m watching on my phone, iPad and Watch so I can control the volume and channel. If you want to go back to the iPhone’s media, it’s just a couple taps away.
