I searched the web for this but couldn't find anything on it, somewhat surprisingly, since both my girlfriend and I have experienced the issue - when airplay mirroring and rotating to landscape (in Safari, for example), the screen on the TV squishes the iPhone display and puts black bars on the top and bottom as a result. I remember mirroring a while back and it working fine so I presume this is a new issue, but why hasn't it been fixed, or is there something I am missing? She has an ATV3/iPh5 and I have an ATV2/iPh5s; we both have the landscape scale issue.
Anyone else see this? :-/

It's always done that for me, shrunk the display on mirroring a bit so there is a black border all the way around. I presume that the ATV is outputting 720p (1280x720) during mirroring and displaying the iPhone at native 1136x640 on the 720p display. If the ATV processor can't upscale 1136x640 to 1280x720 in real-time without lag that may be the reason. Just speculating about that though.
